NEWS & NOTES

Week of October 4, 2010

Two Weeks and Counting – The Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters is now just about upon us….tournament week will be in full stride two weeks from today.

Strongest Field of the Year!? – Just like THE PLAYERS Championship every year, the field for the Winn-Dixie Jacksonville Open presented by Planters could be the strongest field on the Nationwide Tour this year.  Currently every player among the top 60 on the money list is entered and 95 of the top 100.  The best fields to date came last month in Boise (57 of 60 and 94 of 100) and last week at the Soboba Classic in Southern California (58 of 60 and 93 of 100).

Area Ties – Players with area ties who are committed include Chris Kirk of St. Simons Island, Ga. (the Tour’s second leading money winner), Frank Lickliter II of Ponte Vedra Beach, Jeff Klauk of St. Augustine, Bubba Dickerson of Hilliard, Bobby Gates of Gainesville and Jonas Blixt, a 2008 FSU grad.  The deadline to commit is 5 p.m. ET next Friday (Oct. 15th).

Media Credentials – Media Credentials will be available in the TPC Sawgrass Media Center beginning Monday, October 18 at 8 am. There is no pre-registration for this event – rather, all media will be asked to stop into the Media Center on their first trip to TPC Sawgrass to register and receive their credentials. All media parking is on-site, and a parking pass will be included with the credentials. However, a parking pass will not be required to access the on-site media parking lot on the first visit. Simply inform the security staff/volunteers you are with the media, and you will be directed to the appropriate lot. If you have any questions or special requests, please contact Darin Linnman: darin@jspgolf.com.

St. Simons Island’s Chris Kirk To Play McCladrey Classic This WeekChris Kirk has accepted a sponsor’s exemption to play in this week’s McCladrey Classic.  The inaugural PGA TOUR event gets underway tomorrow (Oct. 7th) at Sea Island Resort on St. Simons Island, Ga. where Kirk lives.

This Week on the Nationwide Tour – The Tour is in Tennessee for the Chattanooga Classic presented by Black Creek.

Did You Know? – The number of players who make the 36-hole cut on the Nationwide Tour is different than that of the PGA TOUR.  Sixty players and ties make the cut on the Nationwide Tour while 70 players and ties qualify to play the weekend on the PGA TOUR.
